2023-2024 Promotion & Tenure
May 24, 2024
The Department of Biological Sciences is honored to announce the following two faculty members who received promotion and/or tenure for the 2023-2024 academic school year. These individuals successfully completed a rigorous process at the departmental, college and university level.
Maheshi Dassanayake, PhD, was promoted to Professor. In her lab, she seeks to characterize and compare genomes to better understand genetic and evolutionary processes linking genotypes to phenotypes. A central feature of this is sequencing and decoding plant genomes. The overarching goal of her research is to understand how to interpret complex and fascinating messages embedded in genomes.
Christine Lattin, PhD, was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. The focus of her lab’s research is to understand how different neurotransmitters and hormones help wild animals successfully cope with challenges from predators to disease. The hormone and neurotransmitter pathways she studies are similar in in all vertebrates from fish to birds to mammals, so her songbird and lizard research can help us understand how these systems work in humans and other animals.
We look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at an event in the fall.
