CAPER Undergraduate Internship
CAPER offers an (unpaid) internship program to LSU undergraduates who are in the process
of completing a Sociology major. Throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters,
positions are available to aid various CAPER research projects. Students may earn
course credit for the internship if they enroll in SOCL 3900; keep in mind, however, that enrolling in the course costs tuition money.
Description of SOCL 3900 from the LSU 2015-2016 General Catalog:
Prereq.: 75 hours of course work completed, 2.50 overall GPA, written consent of department
head and supervising faculty member. May be taken for a max. of 3 hrs. of credit.
Faculty supervised field study/research with an agency or organization whose mission
is considered relevant to the student’s curriculum.
Students are not required to enroll in SOCL 3900 in order to complete their CAPER
internship. They may simply accept the unpaid position without receiving course credit.
In return, the students experience firsthand the process of criminology research and
establish personal connections with LSU criminology faculty. Students may set their
own hours.
